Bulgaria to Host the Annual Meeting of the European Association of Public Banks

The European Association of Public Banks (EAPB) chose Bulgaria to be the host of its annual meeting. More than 20 top economists from the European development banks shall discuss on June 3rd and 4th the role of the state banks in the governments' anti-crisis measures. The meeting will be held in Riviera holiday club.

The decision concerning the hosting-country was taken on the Association's general meeting in Budapest. Bulgaria was represented by the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) Sasho Chakalski.

On BDB's initiative different schemes for cooperation between the European development banks were proposed and discussed at the general meeting. BDB is ready to begin its cooperation with the Polish Development Bank, the Croatian Development Bank and the Hungarian Ex-Im Bank, Chakalski informed after the meeting.

The Bulgarian Development Bank is a member of the Association since May 2005. EAPB is established in 2000 in order to represent the interests of the state and development banks on European level. Its members are around 100 financial institutions from 16 countries, operating in the public-private investment sector. By the end of 2009 the market share of the banks – EAPB members is around 15% and their assets amount to more than EUR 3,500 billion.
