The mathematicians from the Sofia High School of Mathematics “Paisii Hilendarski” won three bronze medals in one of the strongest mathematics competitions for 2009 IWYMIC – International World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition в in the SAR. The competition took place between July 5th and 10th in the South African city of Durban. The Bulgarian Development Banks was a general sponsor of the Bulgarian team.
58 teams participated in the competition. The medals for the Bulgarian team were won by the young mathematicians Martin Minchev, Ivaylo Hartarski, and Snezhana Veskova. Iliana Tsvetkova and Mariana Todorova are the team’s leaders.
Bulgaria won 8 medals at the 16th Mathematic Olympiad “Tujmaada” for students from 9th to 12th grade, which took place in the Republic of Sakha, from June 26th until July 10th, 2009. The country was represented by students from the Sofia and Varna High Schools of Mathematics. Daniel Dobrev from the Sofia High School of Mathematics made the best ranking with silver medal.
BDB supports the Sofia High School of Mathematics “Paisii Hilendarski” students’ participation in international competitions for a second year in a row. The students up to 16 years of age won one silver and three bronze medals last year in the “IMC 2008” in Thailand. Rayna Andreeva won the silver medal and the bronze ones were taken by Daniel Dobrev, Radoslav Kafov and Lyuba Bozhilova.
